What to expect.
Students explore a rich variety of fiction, non-fiction and poetry, developing reading comprehension, creative writing and grammatical accuracy. Lessons are interactive and discussion-led, encouraging students to express ideas clearly and listen thoughtfully to others. Spelling, punctuation and handwriting are woven into every lesson, building the foundational skills that underpin all learning.

Analysing fiction, non-fiction and poetry. Developing inference, deduction and the ability to discuss texts with confidence.
Creative writing
Narrative, descriptive and persuasive writing. Planning, drafting, editing and publishing their own work.
Grammar & punctuation
Sentence structure, word classes, tenses, clauses and punctuation rules applied in context.
Spelling & vocabulary
Spelling patterns, prefixes, suffixes, root words and strategies for learning new vocabulary.
Spoken language
Presentations, discussions, debates and drama activities that build confidence and communication skills.

How progress is measured.
Weekly teacher feedback on classwork and homework. Half-term assessments track reading age, writing level and SPaG accuracy. Termly reports provide a full picture of progress to parents.
Where it leads.
KS2 English prepares students for KS3 English, where they will study a broader range of literature and begin developing analytical essay skills ahead of IGCSE.

Every lesson is delivered live by a qualified teacher. Students participate through voice, chat, whiteboards and breakout rooms.
Small classes.
Maximum fifteen students per class. Every child gets individual attention, feedback and support throughout the lesson.
